The ICAR–National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Regional Station, Bhowali successfully organized “Kiwi Fruit Day” on 12/11/2025. A total of 50 participants attended the event, including representatives from ICAR institutes, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), state line departments, and progressive farmers.
During the program, the Bhowali center showcased 16 different kiwi germplasm accessions in fruiting, including colored kiwi fruit accessions. Participants were provided with detailed information about conserved kiwi accessions, plant management techniques, and the potential for commercial kiwi cultivation in hilly regions. Experts delivered informative talks on kiwi cultivation technologies, plant protection measures, and market prospects. The objective of the event was to encourage farmers toward kiwi cultivation and emphasize the importance of conserving its genetic diversity.
The event was coordinated and conducted by Dr. K. M. Rai, Senior Scientist & Coordinator, ICAR–NBPGR Regional Station, Bhowali. Dr. S. K. Verma, former Officer-in-Charge, also graced the occasion and shared valuable insights on kiwi fruit research and development. At the end of the program, participants appreciated the research and conservation work being carried out at the Bhowali center and emphasized the need for organizing such useful programs on a regular basis.
