Report on Kiwi day program at ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station Bhowali

ICAR-NBPGR regional station Bhowali organized kiwi day on 04th February, 2025 with core focus about kiwi fruit commercialization in mid hills of Uttarakhand and demonstration of cultivation practices like training, pruning, T-Bar system establishment and plantation. Program was organized at Regional station Bhowali, Nainital and total 95 farmers were participated from the different parts of Uttarakhand like Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital, Almora, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Tihari Garhwal and Rudraprayag. Program was started with the welcome of famers and brief introduction of ICAR-NBPGR and their stations by Dr. K.M. Rai, scientist & coordinator. Dr. Arun Kishor scientist & SIC ICAR-CITH, RS Mukteshwar explained the scope of temperate fruit in the mid hills of Uttarakhand and future of kiwi fruit as a value added product. The program was designed to cover all the aspects like demonstration of nursery management, grafting, plantation, T-bar system, training pruning. Along with kiwi day celebration also sell the temperate fruit crops planting material as per the rate fixed from headquarter. Total 1456 saplings were sold to the different farmers and generated Rs. 2,44,780/- as a revenue. Dr. Rajnish kumar chief horticulture officer Nainital was the chief guest and in his remarks, he explained the ongoing state horticulture schemes for expansion of horticultural orchards, drip irrigation and value addition. He also encouraged the farmers to grow kiwi fruit with other temperate fruit crops.
