ICAR-NBPGR RS Shillong in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dima Hasao, Assam organised a one day “PGR Conservation Awareness Programme” for farmers at New Sangbar, Dima Hasao, Assam on 27th February, 2025. The program was attended by 200 farmers (67 female and 133 male) from five different villages namely New Sangbar, Sangbar, Lengpui, Khothlir and Thingdol. During the program, Dr. Subarna Hajong, Scientist, ICAR -NBPGR RS Shillong while welcoming the farmers highlighted the mandate of ICAR-NBPGR, and the objectives of the program. She also impressed upon the farmers about the importance of traditional practice of conservation of local crop germplasm and the need for continued conservation of local crop germplasms for food security. Dr. Rashmita Saikia, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Dima Hasao, Assam spoke on “Preparation of Jalkund for rain water conservation”. Dr. Baosring Nunisa, SMS, KVK Dima Hasao, Assam delivered a lecture on “Soil Health and Nutrient Management”. Shri Rokima Nampui, Headman, New Sangbar while thanking the ICAR-NBPGR and KVK for organising such program for farmers, requested that more such programs be conducted to benefit more farmers of the area. Dr. Rashmita Saikia proposed the vote of thanks during the program. Farmers also displayed local germplasm of various crops grown in the region. During the program, various inputs like Torch, Cotton peak cap, Bill hook, Garden hose water pipes, Farmers’s kit and Garden tool kits were distributed to the participating farmers. Farmers shared their knowledge about the diversity of crop germplasm in the area and also interacted with the experts present on the various issues in their farming practices.
