With the aim of raising awareness on the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Bharmour, Chamba (Himachal Pradesh) was organized a One Day Plant Genetic Resources Awareness programme at Bharmour on 18th December 2025. Bharmour is tribal dominated village and during the programme >110 ST farmers participated and benefitted from the programme. The Chief Guest of the programme was Mr. Chaman Singh, CF&AO, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi. Mr. Naveen Kumar, Agriculture Extension Officer, welcomed the Chief Guest, officials from Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, and scientists from ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi and the participating farmers. Dr. Subhash Chander, Senior Scientist, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi briefed about the TSP scheme. Dr. Manohar Lal, SMS, Horticulture, Bharmour, Chamba informed about the different schemes related to horticulture and discussed about the significance of old germplasm of apple crop. Mr. Shyam Lal, Assistant Technology Manager, Bharmour, discussed about the significance of germplasm of field crops such as wheat, maize, rajmah and urd. Mr. Naveen Kumar, Agriculture Extension Officer, discussed about the different schemes of Agriculture for the benefit of the farmers participants. Dr. Vishnu Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi briefly discussed about the role and importance of ICAR-NBPGR for conservation of plant genetic resources including traditional landraces and farmer’s varieties. Chief guest of the program urged the farmers to grow and conserve the genetic resources and use of high quality seeds and panting material of different agricultural and horticultural crops for enhancing the productivity and income. During the program, sickle and secateurs were distributed. The Programme was ended with vote of Thanks by Mr. Vishal Rana, Agriculture Extension Officer, Bharmour, Chamba.
