Salient Achievements

  • Developed micropropagation protocol for Allium schoenoprasum: Of the 35 media combination tested multiple shoots (5.5 shoots/explant) were obtained on on MS medium supplemented with BAP (0.5 mg/l) + NAA (0.1 mg/l) with 30 g/l sucrose. Protocol has been utilized for in vitro conservation of 5 accessions of Allium schoenoprasum.
  • Developed droplet-vitrification protocol for cryopreservation of Allium ampeloprasum: Using shoot tips (1.0 x 1.5 mm) as explants, droplet vitrification protocol of cryopreservation was developed for Allium ampeloprasum L. (syn A. lineare Mill.) with optimum loading solution (60 min) and PVS2 incubation (40 min) period. The average post-thaw regeneration after 4 wks was 58.33%. Thus, standardized droplet-vitrification technique has been used for long-term conservation of one accessions (EC328492) at ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi, India
  • Developed cryoconservation protocol for shoot tips for long-term conservation of Dahlia germplasm: Using shoot tips (1.0 mm Length x 0.5 mm width) as explants, droplet vitrification protocol of cryopreservation was developed for Dahlia accessions with optimum loading solution (80 min) and PVS2 incubation (30 min) period. An average of 44.44% post-thaw regrowth was obtained in six accessions tested. There was no significant loss in regrowth of cryostored shoot tips after 1 year and 6 years of cryobanking.
  • Developed cryoconservation protocol for shoot tips of Cicer microphyllum (CWR): Apical shoot tips (0.8-1.0 mm along with one or two leaf primordia) was used as explant and droplet vitrification protocol of cryopreservation was developed for C. microphyllum accessions with preculture on B5 + 6% sucrose at 10°C for 3 days, PVS2 incubation (20 min) period and unloading solution for 60 min. Post thaw regrowth of 40% was achieved and cryobanked In Vitro Base Genebank of ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi.
  • Core collection of 223 accessions of Setaria etalica was identified using qualitative and quantitative traits with the help of power core software. Thus identified core accessions were also validated using molecular marker (SSR). The diverse accessions thus designated here are likely to be useful in large scale evaluation and screening programs to facilitate their use in crossbreeding programs in the country and elsewhere.
  • E. colona (93 biotypes) and Commelina spp.(38 biotypes) were tested imazethapyr resistance at 100, 200 and 400 g/ha at 4-5 leaf stage. Among the different biotypes of E. colona, 45 biotypes showed resistance against imazethapyr at 100 g/ha, 43 biotypes at 200 g/ha and 34 biotypes at 400 g/ha. Where as in Commelina spp. 6 biotypes showed resistance against imazethapyr at 100 g/ha and only one biotypes showed resistance at 200 and 400 g/ha.
  • Accessions of C. album were identified with highest amount of Fe (13.30 mg/kg leaf), Mn (11.37 mg/kg leaf) and Zn (1.17 mg/kg leaf) from of Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Uttrakhand, respectively.
  • Highest amount of Alanine (13.75), Aspartic acid (18.66), Glycine (10.00), Leucine (11.74) and Isoleucine (15.31) were found in Chenopodium album with accession number IC-622184 collected from Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Developed a database on weed herbarium and its digitization at ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur
  • Methodology was developed for identification of resistant biotypes of jungle rice in soybean growing belt of Central India
  • Developed climate friendly crop residue management technique to reduce GHG emissions and weed infestation through mechanized farm operations
