Salient Achievements

Genomic Resource Development: Developed genomic resources of Elwendia persica Boiss. synonym Bunium persicum Boiss. for the first time through de novo sequencing that are submitted and registered as four sequence read archives (SRA) at NCBI GenBank with accession nos., SRX13571721, SRX13571722, SRX13571723 and SRX13571724. Further, a total of 177029 perfect and 5915 compound SSR motifs were identified in 212585 assembled sequences to generate novel SSR markers. Total 101519 and 2649 primers were successfully designed for sequences containing perfect and compound SSR repeat motifs, respectively.  A set of more than 100 primer pairs for perfect SSR motifs were synthesized and successfully validated. Similarly, novel SSRs were also developed and validated for Genus Gentiana.

Molecular markers and DNA Barcoding: extensively worked upon molecular detection of adulterants/ contaminants of food using specific markers and DNA barcodes. Worked on assessment of genetic integrity of in vitro conserved/ cryopreserved germplasm using molecular markers.

Germplasm conservation: was involved in in vitro and cryoconservation of Tuber/ spice crops. Developed improved in vitro propagation/ cryoconservation protocols for different spp. Including sweet potato, Xanthosoma, Cardamom, Vanilla, Hops etc. Besides, worked upon cryoconservation of orthodox/ non-orthodox seed species conserved valuable germplasm of various non-orthodox species including Buchanania lanzan, Citrus spp., Prunus spp. Capparis deciduas etc.

Use of Microorganism in developing value added products: Isolated, characterized and registered a number of probiotic bacteria and used them for development of various value added products such as probiotic soy yoghurt, probiotic peanut yoghurt
