Salient Achievements

  • Total 6955 germplasm accessions of various Rabi and Kharif crops wheat, barley, paddy, legumes, spices, pseudocereals, maize, millets, oilseeds etc were characterized and rejuvenated for MTS conservation.
  • Named landraces of paddy (11), wheat (36), and barley (18) have been collected, characterized and evaluated for unique traits and correlation was established with the name and corresponding trait of these landraces.
  • 80 accessions of 15 crops comprising wheat, barley, coriander, fenugreek, cumin, brassica, horsegram, barnyard millet, amaranths, buckwheat, soybean, French bean, fennel, chilli and prosomillet were collected during an exploration trip to high altitudes of Urgam and Niti Valleys of Chamoli district Uttarakhand.
  • Quality analysis of 20 landraces of paddy has been done for starch, amylose, protein and sugars and nutritionally promising landraces were identified (Gita dhan, Kawthuni, Lambgudi).
  • Superior germplasm accessions of soybean for high iron content (IC 262059), high total anti-oxidant and phenols (IC 574366) and high flavonoids content (IC 393217) have been identified.
  • Total 766 accessions/ varieties have been tested in farmers field through 47 mother and 211 baby (crowdsourcing) trials in three locations viz,. Tarikhet block (Almora), Someshwar Valley (Almora) and Niti Valley (Chamoli).
