SPECIALIZATION

Salient Achievements

Dr Kuldeep Tripathi has been contributing to PGR management for the last nine years. While working at ICAR-NBPGR, he developed and registered 26 genetic stocks for agronomic, biotic and quality traits in legumes and contributed to the development of three varieties (pulses) for commercial cultivation. He initiated large scale characterization of minor pulses where he identified trait-specific sets, including the Indian national genebank core collection in lentil, pea and cowpea as the main developer. NARS partners are evaluating promising pulse genetic resources developed by him for enhancing utilization. His germplasm selections in pulses are evaluated in varietal trials. In addition, he conducted five exploration trips, collected valuable materials, and reported a new distribution record of Vigna nipponensis, the closest relative of the adzuki bean in India. He contributed to descriptors development for tuber cowpea, pillipsera and CWR conserved in situ by ITPGRFA. He has experience of handling externally funded projects funded by ICAR, DBT, ICARDA, Alliance of BI & CIAT and UNEP-GEF. Besides this, he is also a teaching faculty of the Graduate School, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi.
