SPECIALIZATION
Molecular Entomology, Host Plant Resistance

Salient Achievements

  • Varietal development: Involved in the development of brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens resistant rice varieties, CR Dhan-317, CR Dhan 805 and CR Dhan 809. Also involved in the development rice varieties CR Dhan-102 (Early duration), CR Dhan 326 (BLB resistant) and CR Dhan 807 (Herbicide tolerant) for various traits.
  • Identification of resistance accessions: Identified rice genotypes (AC 34997 & AC 35003) resistance to brown planthopper.
  • Complete genome sequencing: Credited the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of rice gundhi bug (NCBI Acc No: OM177216-17) and brown planthopper biotype-4 (NCBI Acc NO: OK585089) from India, first time in the world which is a very important base for population genetics, and phylogenetic evolution studies
  • DNA barcoding: Developed >700 unique mitochondrial haplotype sequence of rice insect pests.
  • Identified new bacterial biocontrol agent: Skermanella against rice leaf folder and pink stem borer and verified its efficacy; further in the process of development of suitable formulation at field level.
  • Mobile app: Co-Developer of an Android mobile app “riceXpert” for real-time monitoring and management of rice insect pests.
  • Database and decision support system: Developed white backed brown planthopper and rice root-knot nematode database on host plant resistance and rice-insect diagnostic guide. Also developed low-cost IPM technology for farmers’ participatory rice seed production.
  • Greener pesticide molecules: Identified effective botanicals and essential oil Nano-emulsion against rice stored grain Pest
