Salient Achievements

  • Developed Basella alba variety, Kashi Poe-2 (VRB-31) resistant to leaf spot disease. The Variety was released and recommended for cultivation in Utter Pradesh, India by CVRC.
  • Identified resistance source in baby corn germplasm EV141 (resistant) and CML-323 (moderately resistant) against banded sheath and leaf blight (Rhizoctonia solani).
  • Developed and validated specific microbial consortia for nematode (Melodogyne ) management, developed eco-friendly management of Tilletia barclayana
  • During seed health testing intercepted several quarantine importance fungal pathogens like Claviceps purpurea in barley, Peronospora manshurica in soybean etc. in germplasm imported from different countries
  • First reports worldwide:
  • Diaporthe helianthi in safflower
  • Diaporthe phaseolorum on Indian trumpet flower
  • Macrophina phaseolina on basella (Bsella alba)
  • Watermelon bud necrosis virus (WBNV) in round melon (Praecitrullus fistulosus)

Awards/Honours

  • ICAR-PG -AIEEA- Junior research fellow for M.Sc. 2011
  • IARI Fellowship for Ph.D. programme
  • Qualified ARS with 2nd rank in discipline of plant pathology
  • Best poster award on “Nano-Particle seed priming mitigates lead (Pb) toxicity in Indian Spinach (Basella spp.)” in 1st vegetable science congress on “Emerging challenges in vegetable research &education” (VEGCON-2019) from Feb 1- 3, 2019 held at Agricultural University, Jodhpur under Quality seed, IPR, Technology dissemination, PPP and agribusiness Session.
