A Student Workshop-cum-Rice Field Day was organized on 14.11.2024 at ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBPGR) under the chairmanship of Dr. Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR-NBPGR. The program was Co-Chaired by Dr. RK Gautam, Head Germplasm Evaluation Division and Dr. Rakesh Singh, Head, Division of Genomic Resources. The event organizing secretary, Dr. Vishnu Kumar welcomed the dignitaries and the students and informed on characterization of nearly 9000 rice germplasm accessions under direct dry seeded conditions. Dr. Gyanendra Pratap Singh stressed upon rice germplasm diversity, germplasm collection, characterization and evaluation for gainfully utilization in breeding programs. He emphasized to identify low water requiring rice genotypes with biotic stress resistance and having superior nutritional quality traits. Dr. RK Gautam discussed on trait specific rice germplasm identification for better utilization. Dr. Rakesh Singh informed on characterization of rice landraces under the project and stated about possible novel gene availability in the material. The Plant Genetic Resources students were imparted knowledge on-field DUS descriptors, minimal rice descriptors and rice agro-botanic traits. Head of Divisions, Officer In-charge(s), NBPGR officials and students were present in the workshop. Dr. SK Raina, Dr. Suman Roy, Dr. Laxmi Sharma, Dr. Shruti Sinha, Dr. Kuldeep Tripathi and Dr. Badal Singh contributed in organization of the student workshop.
